In the air travel industry, the most attractive job option for most of the pilots is to be an airline pilot with the advantage of having the best salary package which can be up to $200,000 per annum in some good airlines and these demand 80 to 85 hours of flying by a pilot and other benefits for the pilots include insurance cover and free travel passes for their family. But the fact is that only some pilots reach this salary level provided that they have a vast flying experience as well as a job in some good airline is a must. In real practice, most airline pilots start their career as a co-pilot and their salary is about $15,000 to $20,000 per annum and on joining some major airline their starting salary is less as they are usually inducted as a flight engineer rather than a pilot. Extensive practical training is required for attaining the flying skills and this is done either by having an experience as a military or a civil pilot. For pilots jobs other than airline pilots are flight instructor, chartered pilot, corporate pilot, test pilot and agriculture pilot. There is a group of people who enjoys this type of flying jobs with different benefits and drawbacks.

There may be different career options for the pilots but there are certain conditions which imply to all the pilots, these include;

All pilots who choose flying as a profession undergoes extensive training of flight and attain a license for commercial flying. In addition they may also require some specialized certification to fly special aircrafts etc.

Pilots are also responsible for the safety in the air which is ensured by scrutinizing  the condition of the plane, weather conditions, sound knowledge about the air traffic control as well all the navigation planning to give maximum safety to all those who are  aboard.

Pilots have to satisfy two authorities before they can carry out their job as a pilot, one is the airline company which is hiring them and the 2nd is the F.A.A (federal Aviation Administration), both of which are to be satisfied that the level of knowledge about flying and both physical and mental health is optimum to fly.

For helicopter pilot careers they must fulfill the criterion of class 1 Medical Certificate which includes the highest protocols for hearing, vision, equilibrium and general physical condition. The health history of a pilot should be very sound with no evidence of any serious organic or functional disease. There are two other medical certificates which are less strict as compared to the medical certificate 1. All these certificates allow the pilot to wear glasses but the correction should lie within a prescribed limit.

The greater the work load for helicopter pilot careers and greater the complexity of flying, greater are the chances for the pilots to excel in their field. There are also chances of transfer from one field of flying to other with more hours of flying and more refinement of skills. Frequently pilots have a sideline job as a flight instructor or as an air taxi pilot or they may run an aircraft repair station. Many good airline companies may also recruit pilots for government agencies such as Federal Aviation Administration(F.A.A).
